Silverstone Neighborhood Potluck is Coming Soon

Reading Time: 2 min., 11 sec.

You never know what Silverstone residents are smoking, grilling, and cooking to bring to the Potluck dinner.

The unofficial start to the 2021 holiday season is upon us: The Silverstone neighborhood “potluck” will be Sat., Oct. 16, from 4 to 7 p.m., or thereabouts, and will take place on Circuit Lane. Circuit will be blocked off from through traffic for the event.

Because we live in a diverse community, with people from all around the world, we’re encouraging residents to bring a food dish that’s special to you, your family, or your heritage — something that’s tasty and easy to make. Maybe it’s something you’re “known for” making at family dinners or a special dish that your abuela or cho’ made years ago. It can be:

  • meat-based or vegetarian
  • a “main” or “side” dish
  • an appetizer
  • a sweet or dessert

The HOA will provide plates and plasticware. However, the potluck will be BYOB.

We want to get to know our neighbors, to share in and celebrate each other’s culture and culinary heritage, no matter if you’re from San Paulo, Mumbai, or Lubbock. What matters most is getting to meet, to say hello, to visit, and to trade stories about our broken water pumps.

We look forward to seeing you — and whatever you bring — at the Silverstone Potluck.

So What’s a Potluck?

If you’re unfamiliar with potlucks, the word “pot-luck” showed up in the late 16th century as a “meal accepted from another and made without preparation,” combining pot + luck or “one’s chance as to what may be in the pot.”

By the mid-19th century “pot-luck” took on the added meaning of a communal meal where guests bring a food dish to be shared. Potluck dinners remain popular today as church events, fund-raising occasions, at family reunions or — in our case — as a chance for neighbors to meet, visit, and eat yummy food they didn’t have to make or clean up afterwards.

If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below or email the HOA at hoa@austinsilverstone.us.
